As I was looking at my RSS feed, I found an interesting post from Cool Cat Teacher Blog. It is about monitoring your children while they are online. While this post is not directly aimed at teachers, I think it has helpful points.
As we look for new ways to use the internet with out students, we have to keep in mind the dangers and pressures they also face while online. I think that as we begin the school year and give the parents information about our class, it would be of their benefit to read these tips. Even though our students' might be middle schoolers or even high schoolers, parents need to be vigilant of their children online.
The internet gives us great opportunities, but we have to use it with caution for out students' safety.

Hi,
Teachers do really need to ensure that their students use the internet wisely.
Googling for resources may even lead students to inappropriate blogs or websites.
Therefore, I took initiative to create a school search engine which may help students to find educational resources only.
Please send your feedback about Kigose, stands for Kids Google Search as it is still in developing stage.
Regards
Ronald Daniar
Safety is always a concern in anything we do. Some parents can honestly care less about what their kids are doing but as educators it is our responsibility to make them aware of the dangers of the internet if they are not vigilant. In my case, I plan on sending parents a reminder -- having them sign it and return it -- so that they can know about these dangers and I have proof, if anything were to happen that I made them aware.
